Our upcoming Build It Week trip takes place this coming April and we’re very excited! 45 volunteers will travel to Haiti in the last week of April, for a one week period. All volunteers will be required to raise €4,500 regardless if they have, or have not, travelled before.
Volunteers will work in various roles on our site in Gressier (25km outside Port au Prince), where we are building 100 houses in partnership with Oxfam America and pcH, a local community development organisation. All volunteers will work with the local Haitian workforce employed on the project.

EURO 2012
It’s looking like camping is the best option for our travelling Green Army this time round. There’s a big shortage of accommodation for this championship.
So what do we need ?
A good double skin waterproof tent
A compact warm sleeping bag
A decent roll mat or air bed
And if your planning on eating on the cheap, don’t forget a packable stove.
You might also need a good back pack to cart all your gear around.
It’s important to get good gear for your trip, so I’d always advise you to get your gear in a good camping shop and not in a supermarket. Hopefully you’ll be camping for four weeks. (you’ve got to love the Irish optamism)

Habitat for Humanity is an international non-profit organisation that aims to eliminate poverty housing by building simple, decent, affordable homes and by making decent housing a matter of conscience and action.
Habitat for Humanity does not build houses for people; it builds with them. We work together with homeowners and volunteers to construct, renovate or refurbish homes, using donations of money, land and materials. Once completed, houses are sold to partner families at no profit, providing a hand up, rather than a hand out.
Since its foundation in 1976, Habitat has served more than 500,000 families by welcoming people of all races, religions and nationalities to construct, rehabilitate or preserve homes; by advocating for fair and just housing policies; and by providing training and access to resources to help families improve their shelter conditions.
Our mission is to make poverty housing a matter of conscience and action:
By providing a local solution that works in partnership with families and communities in need.
By supporting the global mission of HFH International.
Mountain Rescue responds to three separate incidents in Wicklow and Dublin
7 NOVEMBER 2011 62 VIEWS NO COMMENT
Large numbers of people took advantage of the fine weather over the weekend to spend time enjoying the hills in Dublin and Wicklow. Unfortunately a number of people required the assistance of mountain rescue teams after experiencing difficulties in three separate incidents.
In the first incident, on Saturday 5th November 2011, at 1pm a walker ascending Lugnaquillia experienced chest pains and weakness. The Dublin & Wicklow Mountain Rescue Team & Glen of Imaal Red Cross Mountain Rescue Team immediately responded to the incident and rescuers reached the man and his companions by 1.30pm. The experienced medics were able to carry out an initial assessment of his condition and provide treatment in order to make him more comfortable. As a result of the potentially serious nature of the situation, the Irish Coastguard helicopter was tasked to airlift the Irish hill-walker. With the assistance of mountain rescue volunteers, the man in his 60′s was winched aboard the Sikorsky helicopter at 2.00pm and transferred to Tallaght hospital for further treatment. The operation was completed by 2.30pm with everyone safely off the mountain.
The second incident happened at approximately 1.20pm on Sunday 6th October. A lady suffered an injury to her foot whilst out walking with friends near to Three Rock Mountain in the Dublin foothills. Unable to continue, the group communicated their position to the emergency services via 999/112. An HSE paramedic on a motorbike was the first to attend the scene and because of the inaccessible location he quickly requested assistance from Mountain Rescue. Team members from Dublin & Wicklow Mountain Rescue and Glen of Imaal Red Cross Mountain rescue immediately responded and the lady was quickly treated and transported in a Mountain Rescue vehicle to a waiting ambulance.
In the third incident a lady in her early forties had reached the summit of the Sugarloaf, overlooking the N11 near Bray, late in the afternoon. As she began the tricky descent down one of the gullies near the top of the mountain, she slipped and fell and sustained a serious upper arm injury. Advanced paramedics from both the HSE and Mountain Rescue were quickly with the lady and together treated her for her injury. As daylight faded and temperatures dropped, it became clear that the nature of the injury meant the lady was not going to be able to safely make the descent herself. The decision was made to evacuate her from the mountain by stretcher and necessary equipment was carried up the steep ground to the casualty’s location. Mountain Rescue teams carried her from near the top of the Sugarloaf to the base, where a waiting HSE ambulance transported her to hospital.
After the last callout, Brian O’Doherty, Public Relations Officer with the Dublin & Wicklow Mountain Rescue Team said “The past few weeks have been extremely busy for Wicklow’s mountain rescue teams with 20 people requiring rescue over a two week period. This weekend’s callouts demonstrate the large area covered by the two teams with the incidents in South Dublin and South Wicklow separated by over 60km.”
We would like to thank all involved with the three incidents this weekend including Mountain Rescue volunteers from the Dublin & Wicklow Mountain Rescue Team & Glen of Imaal Red Cross Mountain Rescue Team, the Irish Coastguard, the Defence Forces and the Garda Síochana.
There’ll be further showery outbreaks of rain today and it will be generally cloudy countrywide, but there will be some brighter spells in the early part of the afternoon. Highest temperatures of 7 to 10 degrees with strong and gusty westerly winds.
Tonight
The winds will gradually ease down for a time this evening and early tonight but showers are likely to continue. Overnight more persistent rain will develop along western and southwestern coasts, spreading countrywide towards morning. Lowest temperatures of 4 to 8 degrees, coldest in the northeast.
